A catalytic converter converts exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine into less-polluting pollutants to catalyze an organic reduction reaction. Many of the catalytic converters on the market today do not burn platinum but instead use silver or palladium. Although palladium is a great way to remove pollutants, it is more expensive to make than platinum.
