It’s the mind that generates inspiration – when the conditions are right. Looking at how we experience inspiration, there seem to be three levels. This brings me to a story of my own.
Just like starting to exercise again after you haven’t for a while or perhaps never. It is highly unlikely that you will jump out of bed one morning full of motivation and start exercising. You might not feel like it, but because you know it is important, you will feel better and healthier in the long term, you get going even though you don’t want to. At first it is a real effort and you might have to fight that little voice in your head that will offer you all kinds of good reasons and temptations not to do it.
There are simple ways to increase your motivation. For starters make sure you are getting enough sleep. It is difficult to be motivated to run a mile if you are still exhausted from work yesterday.
How: Finally, the practical benefits of simply being able to master something can inspire you. The practical side of your mind may be blocking your ability to be inspired by what you could accomplish simply because it doesn’t know how you’re going to accomplish it. “How” is a good place to look for inspiration, but an even better place to root out what may be blocking your Follow me. Are you worried, or anxious? I’ve said before that the only prescription for worry is action… so if you’re uninspired, maybe you should start by simply DOING something. Create a process, then work on improving it every day. You might find that inspiration follows even such seemingly-mundane activity.
One way to maintain inspiration is through the use of affirmations. Another way is by keeping pictures of what you want constantly before your eyes. And yet another is through the use of goal cards.
While you may think defining your goals is the first part of this process, you first need to have your passion and purpose. Once those are in place you can set a goal that is connected to your passion and purpose. This will make you more apt to achieving your goals, and making sure those goals are in line with what your purpose is.
Don’t let people deter you. If you have done your homework, know your abilities, and know what is ahead of you and are confident you can achieve your goal, don’t let naysayers influence you. Ignore “You could never do that” talk.
